Activate CIBC Costco Mastercard : How do I activate my new CIBC credit card?
You can activate your new credit card through CIBC Online or Mobile Banking. Simply select Activate Card from the Credit section of My Accounts in CIBC Online Banking, or from the main navigation menu in CIBC Mobile Banking, and follow the steps to activate.
For your security, cards are not active until you activate them. This is to prevent unauthorized use before the card reaches you.
How do I activate my new CIBC credit card?
You can activate any CIBC credit card through Online or Mobile Banking. Each cardholder on the account must activate their own card.
Once you successfully complete the steps to activate, your card is active right away and ready for use. Remember to sign the back of your new card, and to update any merchants that have your card on file for pre-authorized payments if your credit card information has changed.
After you activate your new card, don’t forget to destroy your old card to keep your account secure
Your card number and expiry date will not change, so pre-authorized payments will not be interrupted
However, if your card expires within 9 months of requesting a placement, your new card will have the same number, but a new expiry date. In this case, you’ll need to update your pre-authorized payments with the new expiry date. This only applies to the primary cardholder.
How do I pay with Google Pay?
Google Pay works at any contactless payment terminal where you can pay with your eligible CIBC credit, prepaid or debit card.
To pay in-store:
- Press any button to wake your device.
- Tap your device on the contactless terminal to pay with your default card.
You may be required to unlock your device for security purposes.
To pay in-app or online:
- At payment, select “Pay with Google Pay.”
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your transaction.
You may be required to provide your Google account password or biometric identifier to link the app to Google Pay.
How do I make credit card payments?
You can make payments to your credit card in a variety of ways.
To set up pre-authorized payments on your credit card account, you can call CIBC Credit Card Services at 1-800-465-4653. If you are calling from outside North America, use 514-861-4653. Collect calls are accepted. We are ready to help Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 12:00 am ET, and Saturday through Sunday, 7:00 am to 10:00 pm ET.
You can also sign on to CIBC Online Banking® and transfer funds from your CIBC deposit account to your CIBC credit card. Your CIBC credit card must be linked to your debit card to transfer funds. To verify your credit card is currently linked to your debit card, check the “My Accounts” page for a “Link Account” option next to the credit card.
Another method is to register your credit card as a payee through your CIBC bank account while signed on to CIBC Online Banking:
- Select “Pay Bills” from the navigation.
- Select “Add or Edit Payees.”
- Enter the payee name into the text box, then select “Search.”
- Select the payee name from the search results.
- Enter your credit card number in the “Payee Account Number” box, then select “Next.”
- Verify the payee information, then select “Add Payee.”
You will be asked to confirm the payee you want to add by selecting “Add Payee” once more. You will also be prompted for a one-time verification code. When this step is complete, you will receive a confirmation that your request has been submitted. You can have a maximum of 99 payees at one time.

Once your credit card bill has been added to your account, you’ll be able to select the “Pay Bills” function when you sign on to your account through CIBC Online Banking, CIBC Mobile Banking®, Telephone Banking or a CIBC ATM. You will have the option to make future dated bill payments.
